Snake, now working under the title of Big Boss, learns that Paz may be alive, and that she is being held at a secret facility on Cuban soil known as Camp Omega. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a direct follow-up to the events of Peace Walker. She seizes control of the Metal Gear, but Snake is able to destroy it, and Paz is seemingly killed.
But Snake is betrayed by Paz - the girl who originally convinced Snake to take the mission in Costa Rica - who is now working as an agent of Major Zero. The MSF eventually defeats the Peace Walker and develop their own weapon with the help of Huey Emmerich, dubbed Metal Gear ZEKE, which they plan to use a deterrent against foreign intervention. It is here that he uncovers an untangled plot involving a weapon known as the Peace Walker - a quadrupedal walking tank capable of firing a nuclear weapon.
Snake's organization becomes embroiled in a battle on Costa Rica. In Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Snake strikes out on his own and creates his own mercenary faction, which he dubs the Militaires Sans Frontieres. Things eventually settle down a bit as the newly-renamed Venom Snake heads to Afghanistan, but there are still plenty of big questions below the surface: What's the agenda of mysterious Skull Face? There's a Bond-esque female assassin, squads of special forces, and what seems like a fire demon controlled by a red-headed kid who bears a suspicious resemblance to Psycho Mantis from the first game. In the first few minutes, the man we think is Big Boss awakens from a coma to find himself in the middle of a warzone. When Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain came out back in 2015, the main comment we saw about the opening hours was, "I have no idea what the heck is going on here."
